Trying not to step on any toes but I just got into archery and I am looking for a place in one of the expanded zones. If anybody can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate the information.

Thank you

Welcome to Maine Traditional Archers. I'm not much help for you, since I hunt expanded up in the Bangor area, but the first place to start would be here http://www.maine.gov/ifw/hunting_trapping/hunting/expandedarchery.htm

Click on the name of the area you want to hunt and it will show the boundaries of the specific area. From there, use topo maps and Google Earth for an overview, looking for isolated pockets of cover around food sources. Once you have some areas chosen, gotta get boots on the ground and scout them out. There are some amazing spots available for a hunter willing to put some time in.

Hope this helps a bit,

Kevin

Lots of almost, no blood on the arrow yet. The area I got to hunt is too flat and covered in trails going every which way. I've been busted, while drawing on a buck, by a doe behind me, watched 7 deer pass on other trails out of range and had a couple scent me when they were crossing behind me. I'm going back out tomorrow and give it another shot, plus I need to remove 2 stands and move a third one. Hopefully, the wind will settle down and be from the NW. The place I have in mind will only work with a NW wind, the less the better.
