Martin,
Let me be the first to welcome you the MTA boards. There's plenty of hunting down that way, especially if you take advantage of the expanded archery zones for deer. Add in small game and 3D and you should stay pretty busy. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
As for primitive archery, there's some out there. I'm working on a red oak "D" bow right now, if this one doesn't blow up like my first one did.
Again, Welcome!!

Martin,
I live about 25 mi. west of Portland, let me know when you arrive and I can show you some places to hunt. Other than woodchucks, red squirrel, and coyote, the small game seasons don't start until Oct.
Bear, late August, deer, mid Sept. or Oct. depending on where you hunt.
I have made and hunted with a few selfbows, I really enjoy them, also like to shoot the laminated longbows and the vintage Bear recurves, maybe if I stuck to 1 thing I would shoot better, but it wouldn't be as much fun.

Welcome!
If you ever get up to the mid-Coast region (about an hour and a half north of Portland), please don't hesitate to look me up. I live around the corner from Bob Jacobson (if there is such a thing as 'around the corner' here in Maine) so getting together for some shooting would be great!
Hope to see you around this summer!
Cheers,
-Jeff Neuman

Hello again. The dust is finaly settling here for me at least until the end of June. Got my new truck and a summer job lined up. I will be the archery instructor for one of the girl scout camps. Kind of fell in my lap, but it should be a fun way to see more of Maine and get some arrows downrange. Hard to beat that.
Until then I am hoping to get a 3-D shoot in or maybe link up for a day of roving. I would also like to see about finding any local rock good for knapping. Missed out on the turkey season, but maybe I can fit it in this fall before I head home. I have a couple days spoken for in June, but other than that I am fairly free.
